Hello everyone.
I went for my flu jab recently and I had a chat with the nurse about my diet,I mentioned that I use Splenda if I have a bowl of porridge and also if I have a drink that needs a bit of sweetness such as cocoa and nurse said to me that I should try not to use any more than 6 grains!!
Is this correct or is she talking rubbish?
Besides which it isn't that easy to count 6 grains of Splenda!
 
Wot a load of rubbish. Some people do have problems with certain sweeteners, but I haven't heard of any issues with Splenda. Friends who can't tolerate Aspartame have switched to Splenda or Stevia. I'd much rather enjoy my food - just the thought of unsweetened porridge makes me gag! And I'd have thought that the Scottish alternative of salt would be even worse.

Rubbish is what I thought LeeLee and I wonder if she's ever tried counting Splenda grains!
I would also rather enjoy my food and I find the diet confusing enough as it is without extra confusion being added to it:confused:
 
I don't see any need to sweeten porridge. However some people (mainly foreigners) use honey.

I wouldn't use salt either but traditional porridge is cooked with salt in it (and lots of salt).

Are you sure the nurse didn't say grams and not grains. Splenda doesn't have any grains as it's man made. Some people don't like the artificial components of Splenda (like Maltodextrin) which are use solely to bulk it out. There is lots of stuff on the internet about how bad artificial sweeteners are for you, mainly centred on the chemical processing (I believe white sugar goes through some pretty nasty chemicals as well, phosphoric acid and calcium hydroxide).
And how they make grapefruit segments in cans without the segment membranes is fascinating (caustic soda and hydrochloric acid)😱
 
Vicsetter she definitely said grains and she said it more than once to reinforce the point.
I can only assume that she is not a user of Splenda.

After reading about the canned grapefruit segments I am quite glad that I don't like grapefruit!
 
I've been using Splenda on my Weetabix for some years with no apparent ill effects.

I'm the one who does like my porridge with salt but it is the natural plained stuff (bought a kilo back from france)

I have never heard of any prob with splenda and I've been using it for ages in various ways. I do think it is down to the individual but if it works for you go for it!
