This week a top orthopaedic consultant from Bristol is set to swim from Dover to Calais in a bid to raise money for Diabetes UK.
The 38-year old medical expert, Richard Baker, works at Spire The Glen Hospital and is undertaking the challenge with five friends tomorrow on July 10.
The team will tackle the 21 nautical mile crossing as a relay which is expected to take them between 12 and 18 hours – or a swim of up to three hours each – tide-dependant.
