What are you eating on a typical day?
Some dietary changes may help.

5 is a good number, spiking up to 8 or even 12 occasionally for short periods is not out of the ordinary but changing what you eat can often reduce how high your levels go after meals.

What sort of things do you currently eat for breakfast, lunch and evening meal?
Do you keep a food diary along with before and 2 hours after meal readings so that you can see which meals are cauing you to spike too high so that you can reduce the carbs in those meals to lower the spikes.

It would be worth getting your vitamin B12 checked as if low that can cause tiredness, as you are not eating much veg which contains vit B12 it may be low and it is also a side effect of taking metformin.
Do you like yoghurt, eggs, cheese, fish as they are all soft, how about making soups, sugar free jelly with cream. Have you considered the soups and shakes approach, some people find the Tesco ones OK.

Sorry to hear you’ve been finding it hard to find things to eat that suit you @the homer

It might help to keep a brutally honest food diary for a week or two. Note down everything you eat and drink, along with a reasonable estimate of the total carbohydrate content in your meals and snacks - not just ‘of which sugars.

It might sound like a bit of a faff, and will involve weighing portions, squinting at the fine print on packaging, and possibly looking up things on the internet, but it will give you a really good idea of your starting point and which foods are the main sources of carbs in your menu. Once you can see which meals or snacks are your ‘big hitters’, and where carbs might be unexpectedly lurking, your diary might also suggest some likely candidates for swaps, portion reductions, or using lower carb alternatives (eg celeriac or swede mash, instead of potato).
