Just to clarify: it is only the basal insulin that needs to be considered?
The comments above suggested that it was the total daily insulin (including bolus).
No just Levemir - see top right of the graph where it says: Levemir: typical profiles according to dose. Everyone's TDD which includes bolus insulin will vary dependent on what they eat, even from day to day - so it doesn't come into the equation. I think @trophywench may have got a bit confused.

No - the TDD of Levemir. eg I needed 14u when I got up in a morning and another 4u at 9.30pm, so 18u.

Yes, the whole TDD thing is confusing, I think, because - talking in general not about this graph - most people vary the amount of carbs they eat per day. So all the Rules where you calculate things based on TDD (basal and bolus) always strike me as a bit strange.

Only basal - and only Levemir! There has never been a graph for any other brand of insulin on DSF AFAIK - Terry (who built the website) used whatever info he could find and I spose cos Lev was fairly new on the market and we had an influx of people swapping to it, added it to help us - and it certainly did! - and still does.

It is quite probable IMHO that most consultants/clinics today, let alone yer average GP, won't have seen it, judging by the number of folk who are prescribed only ONE dose of it.

Apologies, I always think of TDD as being everything you take i.e. bolus and basal. However in this case we were both referring to the same thing... the Levemir.

I did know that, as anyone familiar with the website will be - but Terry put the graph separately as he couldn't easily get it on the existing 'Insulin profiles' page - and I always had to blow the web page up to 300% anyway in order to follow the graph lines!

Aah - true Mrs E. They are indeed graphs - but nowhere near as detailed as the Levemir one, that you have the benchmark of body weight to estimate your own correct dosage from - or at least be informed that the reason your BG increases at X o'clock is because by that time of day, it has practically ceased doing much useful for you.

No and it's a pity we don't know more about the other insulins in the same terms, but at least the others show where they peak so that you can adjust dose timings maybe. I think the Gary Scheiner book has some good info on insulin to body weight issues, but I have no idea where my copy is - I think I must have lent it to someone.

PS. It is a difficult chart to find and the website it is on is going to go out of existence when the hosting runs out in November. Perhaps @everydayupsanddowns could import it somewhere onto this site?

Thanks @Pattidevans - yes I must put those resources we discussed as posts in the ‘links’ section.

Do you mean putting links in the links section to DSF? I just got the invoice and told them I wouldn’t be paying and would let the website lapse. There’s no money now as I sent the residue to JDRF. You could just copy the images.
