Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Having quite recently being diagnosed I'm finding it difficult to accept the condition!
Stupidly I know but I think if I ignore it then it may go away!
How embarassing is that, especially as a 63 yr old I should know better.
Has anyone felt and overcome this situation?
Susan:confused:

Hi everyone,
New to this, I am 63 yrs and recently been diagnosed with type 2.
Where do I start and can anyone help with ideas for life changing ideas.

Hi SUsan. Welcome.

Denial and burying your head in the sand is a very normal and common reaction ! 🙂

Don't feel embarrassed or ashamed. Pretty much everyone has done it at some point.

I won't attempt to offer lifestyle advice because I'm type 1 and control things in a different way, but you'll be inundated very soon. :D

Hi Susan. I think we all react like this at the beginning. I know I did and especially at our 'grand' age!😛 Please ask anything you need to know and someone will have the answer.

Hi Susan and a warm welcome to the forum, i think most of us have had feelings of remorse or simply just trying to forget we have diabetes, unfortunetly it just dont work and it will come back and bite you on the bum, all the support you need you will get from here hun so keep coming on and get to know us all xx

Hi Susan, welcome to the forum. 🙂

Just to let you know that I've merged your two threads. We might as well get all the hellos and initial advice in one place to start with.

You'll find a lot of helpful advice in the following link ....

In the meantime, I found that losing weight has been hugely beneficial to me as well as making sure I exercise each day and eat regularly and healthily.

Hi Susan and welcome.
I know it all seems doom and gloom but it doesn't have to be - its all in how you approach it - complain about it or embrace it as a great opportunity to make your lifestyle better.
Up to June I had quite become the couch potato who had given up on the diet roundabout and was just thinking to **ll with it. The diagnosis was the biggest kick up the bum and by hard work, learning and meeting fantastic people on here, my life is now much healthier and i feel fulfilled.

As Andy says healtheir eating (which everyone on here will help with) and daily exercise is a good starting point.

Do you need to lose any weight? if so why not pop into the weight loss group forum - you are more than welcome!

Hi Susan,

Welcome

I can safely say I felt, and occassionally still do, try to ignore the fact that I have Diabetes, but as Steff has said it will come back an bite you on the bum! The only bit of advice that I can give is jus to take your time and each day as it comes, ask as many questions on here as you can 🙂 am sure we will all try our best to answer you.

take care,

Shirl
