I'm not a cook so forgive a dumb question....Mr Marten sometimes makes a rhubarb crumble with almond flour, but couldn't get any in Holland & Barrett today, so he bought soya flour, which is more carby. Does it work as well as almond flour? He was going to add some flaxseed to the mixture.

(He's just now popped across the road to see if our local Turkish shop has any almond flour - it has all sorts of things...)

Thank you very much 🙂

I think coconut flour might be a better alternative. Do they have that?

I only tried it once with almond flour & burnt it.:( Golden ground Linseed might work, though don't quote me on that.🙂

Here’s a recipe. I have tried making dumplings with soya flour as I had a lovely Jamie recipe for chicken stew and dumplings. The soya seemed to absorb all of the sauce from the stew and disintegrated when I looked on oven. So I would say just make sure the recipe isn’t too wet. So maybe Apple would work better than say raspberry. It’s quite a nice nutty texture though soya flour,

Thanks for replies.

Mr Marten couldn't find any alternatives so he's going to give the soya flour a go this afternoon. We shall wait and see.....🙂

Well, the crumble was made with soya flour with flaxseed and chopped nuts added, and turned out not too bad at all 🙂 As neither of us like very sweet things it wasn't overly sweet, and my BG results were:

before dinner (chicken casserole with steamed veg, rhubarb crumble & cream, glass of rhubarb & ginger gin with sugarfree tonic): 5.9; 2 hours later: 7.1. So I thought that was pretty good :D

I have some rhubarb gin someone bought me for Christmas. I found it too sweet for me, but it was fine with more gin added.:D

Last night's result was even better - before dinner (Quorn mince & diced veg with steamed veg, rhubarb crumble & cream with 3 or 4 raspberries & blackberries, red wine): 5.2; 2 hours later: 5.8 :D which I thought very nice...though it might have been the red wine helping...😉

But I'm going to make the effort of getting back into regular exercise and lay off the cream etc as my weight and my waking numbers have been creeping up, and I don't want to be told off at my review in May (even worse if they say 'told you so...!')

Still, brighter weather, even if cold, is an incentive to get more active 🙂
