I've been trying to see a diabetes specialist at the hospital I'm attached to but the receptionist told me that I needed to speak with my GP ... I spoke with the practice nurse at my GP yesterday and explained some of my concerns and that I would really like to speak with a diabetes specialist just to go through a few things...she was extremely helpful and agreed that she thought I needed to do this too... She contacted the diabetes centre at my hospital and rang me back today telling me that they said they had said they were under-staffed and that no-one would be available for me to speak to...she also gave me the name of someone I could try to get in touch with. So annoyed!! 😡

I'm sure staffing must be a problem up and down the place, but they ought to be able to provide some kind of cover - might be worth contacting the PALS http://www.pals.nhs.uk/ to see what they have to say.

Or your local MP.

My retinal scanning is always done at a local opticians because the hospital was making cuts and no longer had the staff to deal with out patients. In a way it is better for me a I only get one bus, but it is not good to loose so many staff from the hospital.

Can you ask for an appointment? Might be that they are unable to deal with phone calls at present but would be able to fit you in for an appointment. Alternatively do you have your DSN's email address?

Thanks for all the suggestions. Does DSN stand for Diabetic Support Nurse? I have been with the hospital for just over two years and have never been given a link nurse. (It was fab at the previous hospital as my link nurse actually had Type 1 so that was great and I had a really good relationship with her because she was so understanding and supportive.) I've been told I have to wait until my next appointment - at the end of July!!😡

DSN is diabetes specialist nurse. Lots of places aren't actually allocating a specific nurse to each person, instead just being able to access a team of nurses. Are there community DSN's in your area? maybe you practice nurse could find out if there are any avalaible that you could be seen by.
