I am sure everyone feels the same - came as a clattering shock to me so now to get in with moving to remission

Clattering shock is a very good way to describe our initial feelings on diagnosis! Were you given your hba1c? And any advice on diet and/or medication?
Reducing your carb intake will help as they turn quickly to glucose so it's not just a case of cutting our sugary things. If you give us a bit of background on your diagnosis people will be able to tailor their answers. Any questions, just holler, there is a wealth of experience here and there is no such thing as a silly question!

Many thanks
I think it was 48 - which I see translates to 6.5
Have started the fasting 16/8 programme and cut out as much carb as I can
Have to go back In 3 months for a check
My cholesterol is good at 3.5

48 is a great starting place...I was 76 and there are people here who have started out in 3 figures and managed to reduce it significantly. It sounds like you are taking it on the chin and with fasting and reducing carbs. It's worth noting that cutting out all starchy carbs straight away may result in vision problems. Luckily it wasn't the case for me because I just cut out all bread, pasta etc and only found out from this forum about the potential dangers!

Best of luck with your fasting programme and please let us know how you get on

Hi KCA, welcome to the forum.

A diabetes diagnosis comes as a shock to lots of people so you're not alone there. Your HbA1c number of 48 is 'good' so with a few small but consistent changes, you should be able to achieve your goals.

We've got some helpful info on remission on the site so do have a look and let us know if we can help in any way.

Many thanks for heads up on cutting all starchy carbs - will happily eat some pasta now - whole wheat

Just be careful of your portion size, more sauce than pasta. Whole wheat has the same carbs as ordinary. Lower carb pasta is made from edamame beans or black beans only 15g carb per 100g dry weight.
