Sorry, I'm whinging again.

I've noticed these last few days that the finger pricker really hurts, no matter which finger I attack. I've changed the lancet twice so it can't be that. Could it be because I've been testing so much in the last few months that my fingers are becoming more sensitive, or is it just me being a wimp? It really seems to be hurting much more nowadays.

Finger pricking has always been the hardest part of all this for me, I have psych myself up to do it, and always wince when the needle goes in. I have no problem with the injections, just the testing. I'm pretty sure I have the finest needles available.

Could be a couple of things. How often do you use a different finger? I find the weather has an effect on my sensitivty and if I have been ill it can have an effect too.

See if you can get someone to help out by doing the other hand for you. Hope something sorts out for you soon as it shouldn't be a pain doing things to keep ourselves healthy.

Would agree with Caroline, the heat makes me more sensitive and my fingers bleed more. Also, anxiety and tension will make it feel worse too. What device do you use? Do you have one that you can adjust the depth of the needle or one of the painful, "one size fits all" prickers?

It's adjustable and on the lowest setting and yes, I use a different finger every time. Perhaps it's because I'm not too well, can't be the heat it's only 17c here.

Wish I was where you are, my thermometer is reading 28.5C. I haven't noticed feeling ill makes a difference but I guess if you are feeling more sensitive in general it wont help. Have you tried warming your hands under the tap first?

Which finger pricker do you use? I found that some hurt much less that others. The other thing that occurred to me is that is it maybe around that time of the month? I find that I get more sensitive to pain around that time, and that blood tests and injections hurt a little bit more that I expect. Hope it clears up soon!

I've now started not changing mine each time I use it then I realise it hurts more and my fingers look worse. Never mind it means less trips to the docs and it's only me doing it :D

I'd also say what finger pricker do you use? I have a Accu-chek softclix plus which is fab doesn't hurt at all. actually when I was first diagnosed I was given an ugly white one which doctors use and my nurse at the time flipped when she saw they'd given me that hhaha.

I have three, two that came with my Freestyle Freedom Lites and one from the Bayer Contour that I never use (the meter that is). They're all adjustable, using the finest gauge lancets and on the lowest setting. I always wash my hands before testing so they're clean and warm and I change the lancets fairly regularly these days. That's why I'm so puzzled by this sudden sensitivity.

Alison theres a new lancet device out called the One touch comfort it is really good and very gentle...See if you can find out if you can get one x
