At last I've been given a ( wait for it ) telephone appointment. after complaining that humulin I is not suiting me my legs are just the same aching calves and now sore balls of the feet when I stand up. I'm not really overweight maybe just a few pounds. I should not be like this . I used to run every day. I've been teaching taekwondo for 33 years. Dont smoke. Hardly drink but since this virus started everthing seems to have gone pear shaped and now I can hardly walk very far. I think it's this insulin so I tried to just work on novarapid but no one has said how much even the doctor said I dont know how much for you to take. So I'm forced to take humulin to get my sugars down anyone help I'm getting desperate

I replied to your earlier thread @Tricky micky mentioning the IDDT and saying that some insulins don’t suit certain people. Aching joints and/or muscles is one of the possible symptoms. The insulins that are usually involved are analogue insulins and human insulins. You could try a complete change of insulins but you’ll probably have to fight for that.

My priority, if it was me, would be to rule out other causes of your calves and feet problems first though.

See podiatrist about feet mate for proper diagnosis, had couple bouts of plantar fasciitis & that can be very painful, common condition in people playing sports.

Hi inka had my insulin changed today to toujeo thediabetic nurse said to take 48 units in the morning between 8 and 10 but reading on the reviews for this insulin rapid heartbeat etc I'm worried about taking it. I live on my own and have no one to turn to if I get in trouble has anyone had bad side effects from this insulin that they could tell me about as im really worried about starting to take it .thanks

You might find it best to start a new thread asking about Toujeo @Tricky micky I’m afraid I don’t know much about it except it’s similar to Lantus which is one of the insulins most likely to cause joint pain....

You don’t have to take any insulin you don’t want to, but it sounds like you doneed insulin so you’d have to speak to the nurse and arrange an alternative insulin. The ones recommended for insulin intolerances are usually the animal insulins - ie Hypurin Porcine Isophane and Hypurin Porcine Neutral. These are older insulins and can help those who have problems with the newer insulins. You’ll find a lot of ignorance about them but they can be fantastic for those who need them.

Just a thought - could the rapid heartbeat symptom be related to the risk of hypos (that comes with all insulins?) Yes, it is a concern when you live alone - I totally understand that. Again, I would mention that to your nurse.

Do consider starting a new thread about the Toujeo though. If you like, you can simply ask the moderators here to move your post above and my reply here to a new thread.
