I had an abnormal vitamin D test earlier this year. I was put on very intensive treatment for a week and then medication twice a day. I've just got my next vitamin D test come back - I've been told that this one is also abnormal and that I have to see the doctor. It just feels like a never ending list of things being wrong I thought that it would be normal as I'm taking the medication and spend at least an hour outside at least 4-5 times each week. I don't know what is preventing me from absorbing the vit D or what to do if the medication isn't working.

I hope all goes well with the doctor for you and things are sorted for you soon

Sorry to hear that Amanda :( I hope the doctor is able to give you a good new treatment option for the problem, try not to worry.

I'm really sorry to hear your results came back abnormal. I hope that something can be done to correct the problem. Thinking of you.

HI Amanda, my Vitamin D is always low - around 20 - despite taking 2x 2000IU per week.

My consultant doesn't seem overly bothered provided I keep taking the tablets. I seem to remember him saying a good percentage of the british have low vitamin D counts. I think if it is associated with calcium deficiency etc it is more concerning.

Maybe he is just being careful and checking you out to make sure it is nothing more serious than we get hardly any sunshine!!

Try and stay positive.🙂

Thank you everyone. I've been doing what I shouldn't do and looking at the internet - trying to focus on reliable sources - but they all seem to suggest that insufficient Vitamin D can lead to a load of potential problems including increased heart risk and certain type of cancers as well as fractures etc. I just can't understand why I'm not getting enough vitamin D.

Thanks Lucy

These tests are all very well but they do end up worrying us don't they? I'm sorry to hear this Amanda and hope you can soon see your doctor to avert your worries. I bet lots of us have no idea what our vitamin D levels are. The internet is a mixed blessing too - I often google things and wish I hadn't! Let us know what the doc says.xx

Thanks Karen. Now that I've done more reading about it I'm less worried because the NHS guidance appears to suggest that that a level of 55 isn't too bad. I'm going to phone the surgery at 8am tomorrow to try to get an appointment.

Thank you Sheena x

Are you aware that tannins in tea can alter mineral absorption, try and avoid drinking tea until lunch if you are taking the vitamin d with your breakfast.

blimey you dont have a lot of luck do you all the other things you have wrong with you and now this You are one unlucky person Take care
