Some suggestions by my diabetes dietician

Hi, I was diagnosed only last month, and I had two very helpful telephone sessions with my GP's own diabetes dietician,and have a third one scheduled for next week. I am keeping bread now to one slice per day, which I have for breakfast in the morning. I use only multi seed wholemeal bread. The dietician told me that I should envisage around a cupful of carbs, one cupful of veg and one of protein. For fruit she said only, what fits into your palm, and to keep fruit to three such portions per day&about six portions of vegetables.

Do you have a home blood glucose monitor so you can check if those suggestions are keeping your blood glucose at a reasonable level.
Testing before you eat and after 2 hours can tell you if what you have had is Ok if the increase is no more that 2-3mmol/l.
You obviously have some uncertainty about diagnosis so have you had the c-peptide and GAD antibodies tests or are they just seeing if you respond to the dietary changes and medication.
If your level has been quite high then bringing it down slowly is better as it is less likely to cause issues with your eyes and nerves.
 
I agree with the advice above. I followed my diabetic nurses advice which was no need to test, have shredded wheat for breakfast, have one slice of wholegrain bread daily, only berries for fruit and never as a snack, no fruit juice and lots of veg( 6 is low). I didnt test and my levels went up. When I did test I discovered the Bread and the Shredded wheat were spiking my levels a lot so I cut them out. Testing is crucial
