Last June I was diagnosed T2. Severely overweight, lethargic and sedentary, I was a prime candidate but since the diagnosis, I have taken responsibility and am determined to lead the best life I can. Walking was my first change and I started walking around my village, discovering things I hadn't known after living there for twenty years. I am lucky enough to have a canal close and often include that on my route. My diet wasn't too bad (vegetarian, teetotal) but I had a big problem with portion control having been greedy all my life.At the same time as the T2 dx, I was found to have an underactive thyroid and that, too is being addressed. Now, three months later, I have lost 9Kg (lots more to go), have more energy and am certainly fitter. At the moment I am in Cape Town (lucky me!!!!!) and have been on two mountain hikes, both taking two hours. Although they were a challenge, I managed them, something that would have been impossible three months ago. I do understand that there is no room for complacency but with the support and information I have received on this forum, I intend to continue to live well.
