Some good news about PIP for me

As some of you may remember I was worried about PIP. Due to major health changes - including a neurosurgepn wanting to cut through my throat to get to my spinal cord (I'm relaxed about it now and have decided against it) as required by PIP I notified of the changes. They sent us a form which Mark filled in my behalf. As we were when I first applied for PIP, we were complete honest about each situation (I'm paranoid about putting the wrong thing). I got a text a week ago to say that a decision had been made and a letter today confirming full rate for both parts. It has been a very emotional journey having to describe on the form just how much my life has been affected by my disabilities/health - especially when I had the effects of over ten illnesses to discuss - but it's all sorted now and the award is for five years until 2030.
My main advice about filling in the form is a) be honest b) have relevant medical information i.e. keep all consultant letter etc etc) make sure that what you write clearly applies to the relevant PIP descriptor that you are writing about - they can only award points if they know how your circumstances apply to each descriptor d) Be specific e.g. don't write quite often, say specifically how often on average e) provide specific real life examples for each descriptor
f) read through everything you can on the internet e.g. CAB etc for advice about filling in the form g) try to get help completing it e.g. from CAB etc although I understand that it is getting increasingly difficult for them to have the time to do this h) be comfortable about whether you think you match the descriptors - if you don't match them it's not worth the stress etc of applying for it (that is my personal opinion).
These are probably my only comments on this thread as I am exhausted and struggle typing and concentrating nowadays. Plus another thing - you are almost certainly unlikely to get PIP if you "just" have diabetes (again my personal opinion).

Congratulations I’m glad it’s all sorted and now you can forget about it for another 5 years.

Definitely no pip if you just have diabetes except where you have severe complications - visual impairments, mobility affected by amputations or foot complications etc.

I got 0 points for my diabetes and my autism but found the physical condition points easier, and got those for ME, it’s just that ordinary diabetes doesn’t affect you getting washed, dressed, etc so doesn’t need PIP

Glad you are getting the support you should @AJLang

Just such a shame they make it such an ordeal for everyone!

PIP is a bitch to fill in and get. More people get it after appealing than do first time. im lucky i get full pip in both elements due to physical and MH isues It took me 3 attemps to get it

That's good news Amanda and hopefully eases any financial worries for the next 5 years. I am so pleased you got the full award. It's such a shame you have to go through such a convoluted process to apply for it.
How are you getting on with your new crafting projects?

The benefits system is absolutely appalling and degrading and this government, who I have always voted for , appear to be even more determined to slash people off welfare

If the main driver of a government policy is to reduce the money spent on vulnerable people ....by narrowing the goalposts .....then it's obvious that hundreds of thousands of people will suffer

It's disgraceful

The stress it causes unwell people is disgraceful

I find MIND a great help but even they are outraged at what's going on

Keep safe

Unfortunately I kinda think that it is entirely designed to be arduous and off-putting :(

Absolutely, of course it is

It's no good those pushing benefit reform that there are people cheating the system ....

Go and catch THEM then you hopeless idiots ........don't make everyone go through anxiety ....fund fraud teams don't persecute the rest of us

Well that’s not true, where did you get that idea? You can check the statistics online, more are awarded at first application than through appeal

There's about a 43 percent award rate on new claims

So 4 out of 10 people who claim are successful, the rest , 60 percent refused

After the appeal 34 percent .....of those that appeal .....are awarded pip

So that's not the same as what you are saying because many don't appeal

Gill said more are awarded on appeal than at first application. That’s not true, 34% is less than 43%. The 34% isn’t what we’re talking about anyway, the amount awarded on appeal is less than that because some of that 34% were awarded at first application, but appealed for a higher award and were given an increase.

I am afraid that's not really clear at all

Which bit? 34% is less than 43%, that bit should be clear.

34% is a combination of people upgraded at appeal (A) and awarded at appeal but declined at first application (B). So two smaller numbers than 34%, A+B add up to 34%. There’s another segment C that aren’t awarded and don’t appeal, we aren’t bothered about them here.

Gill is saying more people are awarded at appeal than on first application, so she’s saying B is more than 43%

B can’t possibly be more than 43% because A+B is 34% and that is less than 43%

Therefore she is mistaken. More of the pip applicants are awarded pip on first application than are awarded at appeal.

It's still not clearer the way you have put it to be honest

Anyway I don't trust PIP , ESA or any of them

If PIP said they treated everyone fairly and their forms were genuinely designed to help people , I wouldn't believe them

You must be one in a million AJ, :DI'm amazed they have even opened your change of circumstances due to the long delays in assessing people.
If I were you I would ring and ask why you have only been given a 5 year award instead of 10 as you like me are not going to see any improvement.
Also when you are feeling up to it make sure you ask for your statement of reasons. (It will help no end when renewal time comes around again)
Now you can relax and dream about what you can buy with your £10 Christmas bonus

I listened to that awful woman Liz Kendal saying people with long term chronic illness wouldn't face further testing

Bunch of liars , just like the last lot
