Well I always knew that gernal doctors knowledge of diabetes was limited but this is just taking to another level.

So I came into a discussion with someone online. It was something I said in a post in a group that prompted them to say that that they waiting to see a diabetes spicalist because there blood sugar keeps dropping. So of course I had to say that wasn't diabetes unless on insullin. To which they replied type 1 can low(yeah not without insulin.

And it turned out it was a hospital doctor that made this sujesstion! I mean just come on!(If it was just a gernal doctor they wouldn't be so much of a rant because I kind of thought the same but a doctor should know better!)

Okay rent over

Rant away. It can be scary. I find I tolerate lack of knowledge much better than incorrect information.

I do find judgements made by non specialists irritating.
During an assessment at the local hospital He was going through my data.
  • He told me my HbA1c was very high (53).
My D Consultant has spent a long while to get me to accept a higher target and to be more relaxed about my management. As far as he is concerned my 53 is excellent
  • He then misread my notes and told me my Hba1c would be the cause of my retinopathy!
What!!! I don’t have retinopathy. The records stated ‘No evidence of retinopathy in Left eye’ and ‘No evidence of retinopathy in Right eye’. He had only read the end of the statement.
We sorted it and they are working full tilt, and I just need to focus on what I hear from my D consultant.

It is a good job that we become experts in our own condition.
I guess it is the same in other fields.

Reactive hypoglycaemia (low blood sugars) can be a sign of diabetes though
