Hi all. As some may be aware, I have always struggled with fasting levels. No matter what I do they are always around 6/low 6s. However, more recently they have crept into the mid 6s and even hit 7 once or twice. I am convinced this is hormonal. Can drinking a couple of glasses of red wine in the evening cause my BG to rise in the morning? This morning I awoke to 6.7. I ate a yogurt. 2 hours later 6.2. Ate a small bowl of porridge and blueberries. an hour later 4.8! Has anyone any thougts or advice? I have a review in a few weeks with the doc and am worried that this rise in early morning BG will result in a higher HbA1c result.:( Thanks all. Katie

Have just re-tested and 5.5 at 2 hours after eating porridge. Does this mean porridge is a good thing for me to eat if my BG is high? Also, I know some of you gather data to take to the doctor before your review. What is the best way to go about this ie. how often do you think I need to test to give him a clear indication of what my BG is doing? Do you think I even need to do this? Honestly, I am so flustered and confused, I really don't feel like I have a grip on this at all!😡

Sounds like you are suffering from Dawn Phenomenon Often the way to stop BGs continuing to rise is to eat something as you see from your own results.

Thanks for the reply Pattie. Have figured out that mornings are my problem, but my fasting levels seem on the increase. I am fighting a battle not to progress from impaired glucose tolerance to diabetes, though I suspect, and have for a while, that I do in fact have Type 2 diabetes. My forthcoming review will answer the question. I am really stressed about the whole thing and am just trying hard to fight, what appears to be a losing battle.:(

Some people say they find a low carb snack (higher in protein and/or fat) just before bed can help. The idea being that the liver feels less need to release glucose early if you are digesting something overnight, but that the 'something' needs to have as little impact on BG as possible.
