Diet drinks...Coke & Pepsi - what's the scoop - safe in moderation or not?

Once I understand all this a bit more I will do what I can to contribute rather than asking all the time.

Thanks to everyone that is helping to answer my questions...you are taking the edge off my terror! 😱
 
Diet drinks are fine Tomm 🙂 If you're in a pub or fast food place though, make sure they give you diet, not full sugar - mistakes are often made! 😱
 
yep i often get mis served regular coke with my vodka.... leading to sky high sugars grrrr
 
Yup I adore Pepsi max and sprite zero,as northerner said though always be on your guard when eating out
 
I must admit I get a bit nervous when ordering draft soft drinks in pubs, but fortunately most diet drinks have a noticeable after taste.

My household has swapped to coke zero and sprite zero. Although I've just discovered Fruit Shoot sugar free too 🙂
 
can i just say -top tip for when your out drinking...and the best test for telling if you get diet or regular coke etc - a bit crude... but it works...... keep some GLUCOSE URINE TEST STRIPS ........... IN YOUR POCKET/BAG.......... dip it and the truth will tell!!
 
Contrary to popular misconception (fostered by countless crackpot websites), no artificial sweetener has ever been shown to be harmful at sensible dose levels, or even at levels 10x or 1,000x what anyone would reasonably use -- not even the cyclamates, which is why the former UK ban on those has been repealed. The only experiments "demonstrating harm" were done at such ridiculously high doses (equivalent to a human consuming kilograms of sweetener every day over a long period) as to render the whole exercise meaningless and pointless, for anything is toxic at a high enough dose level -- even water. (Search for "water intoxication" or "hyponatraemia"; it isn't pretty.)

Interesting indeed............

Wikipedia's first case of such a death from this was Leah Betts, who was plastered over the front pages in intensive care after taking an Ecstasy, but in fact it was the water consumption that killed her........😱
 
Wilkipedia, are a bit wrong on there facts as "hyponatraemia" has been a medical known condition for donkey years, well before we started smoking dope let alone taking Ecstasy...

But you can tell the difference between full fat fizzy drinks and diet drinks, and it's not the taste it's the consistency... Diet drinks are thinner more watery than full fat ones..

And I don't drink a lot of fizzy drinks, only have the occasional one...

There's another, more lo-fi way of doing this too. Dip your fingers in your drink, and then rub them around until they're dry. If your fingers are really sticky, it's regular, if they're not, it's diet.

Discovered this tip after spilling a coke on myself while drunk.....
