Taipei, Feb. 19 (CNA) A group of Taiwanese doctors launched an association for bariatric and metabolic surgeries Sunday, as part of their efforts to provide better treatment for obesity and diabetes patients.
Taiwan became one of the first countries in Asia to offer bariatric surgery -- weight loss surgery -- when Taiwanese doctors started offering the procedure some 30 years ago, said Lee Wei-jei, president of the Taiwan Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, at the launch ceremony.
