So What Do People Really Want?

As you may have seen in the Waking BG thread I got confused and thought it was Halloween today. Why? Because I was WhatsApp'd "Scary day today!".

It turned out they were referring to the Budget. MSM media has paid a lot of attention to this - often in a very negative manner! The person who messaged me reads the Daily Fail and like me them seems to wants a brilliant NHDS and excellent schools but without paying for them! They cannot have it both ways. Yes the NHS needs some reform particularly in areas like middle management and admin where there is an excess of staff - some very well paid. Yet I have experienced broken equipment at physio, a friend turned up for a "field of vision" check to find the equipment was broken and another for a CT scan where again it was out of use. In the latter two cases nobody thought to let them know. Everybody should get excellent education and health care not just the rich! We like to think of ourselves as one of the top nations but are going backwards fast! Increasing NI would just be taking back what Jeremy Hunt gave away to try and buy votes. I would like to think it will be spent appropriately not like the increase after Covid that saw no improvement in health care or social care!

Rant over!

The budget is today?
I think the media has been talking about it for as long as they have been talking about the US elections. And it feels as if most of the budget headlines have already been announced. So I am not expecting much.

I am glad to see increased spending in the NHS and an increase in minimum wage has been announced. I still can't understand why minimum wage is so low for someone under 21 (I appreciate the government say they are trying to alleviate this gap). Any company who suggest they cannot afford to increase minimum wage for their staff can only run a business by exploiting people.

<That was my rant>

I like the saying, "Pay your taxes happily - and then you won't need to have to think about donating to charity". We seem to have become a very selfish country: "Don't make me (or my children) pay tax, give me free health and social care, don't let any refugees into the country and don't build any houses near me - but do stop people living on the street".
