Finally after what has felt like forever I got my hba1c re tested this week.
Diagnosed is December 2024 (75&73).
Couldn’t see the diabetes nurse till April.
Hba1c this week……… 36!!!!!!

Ive worked really hard, lost two stone and made permanent changes to my diet and lifestyle. (I recognise i hadn’t taken the pre diabetes warnings seriously enough and was also feeling rotten so changes were necessary!)

Ive been on 3xmetformin a day since Christmas day when it was prescribed at a and e after i took myself there due to feeling so hurrendous.

What can i hope for now in terms of next steps? Will the medication still carry on or reduce/remove, would i need more tests, any info would be greatly appreciated

Wow - what an amazing result! Huge congratulations on all the hard work you've put in. Dropping your HbA1c to 36 is a fantastic achievement, and it's clear you've made some really meaningful changes to your lifestyle and health. Losing two stone and feeling better in yourself must feel like such a win, especially after how unwell you were feeling at the start. You should be so proud of yourself <3
As for next steps, it’s definitely worth having a conversation with your diabetes nurse or GP at your next review. Some people in your position, with such a great improvement, do go on to reduce or even come off medication like Metformin, but that decision would depend on things like how stable your blood glucose levels are day-to-day, and how things look longer term.
They might want to repeat your HbA1c in another 3–6 months to make sure the improvement is sustained before making any changes, and they may also check things like cholesterol, kidney function, and blood pressure if they haven’t already - just to get the full picture of your health.
Whatever the outcome, you’re clearly in a really strong place and taking control of your health. Keep doing what’s working for you - and please keep us updated, we’d love to hear how things go!

Well done on your excellent HbA1c result. Your hard work and diet changes are working well. You would need to discuss reducing your medication with the nurse but it is possible. You will still get annual checks for your hbA1c together with feet and eye checks. So pleased for you.

Great result @Lea123 - back into normal range. Well done.
