well 5 weeks ago i had the starts of a foot ulcer - today i found out the bone in my little toe has broken beyond repair and is causing the ulcer. So they want to remove the toe next week. as you can imagine i'm not very happy about this and feel pretty sick at the idea :(

I've been told so many different things - i was told to let the toe dry without a cover, then it was covered and given iodine, i had 5 different lots of Anti-biotics, misdiagnosed with a DVT, got told that the infection had spread to my bone and now this :(

all in all not a great month! 🙂

Simon, I'm so sorry to hear this :( We were wondering how things were going, sorry it has turned out for the worst. Have they given you any indication of how this might affect your mobility?

What a shame Simon, hope things go well and your recovery is quick.

Oh dear :(
Hope you heal quickly

Sorry to hear this, what a horrid thing to happen. It does sound as though the docs haven't been certain what was actually wrong and how to treat it - is amputation the only action they can take? Hope you recover quickly and comfortably.

So sorry to hear your news Simon. I hope the op goes smoothly and you soon recover.

Northerner - They said it shouldnt effect it - but i really dont see how it cant :(

thanks - LeeLee, Cat1964, Lauras87 and KateR

Redkite - i asked and he said the bone is to badly fragmented :(

Sorry to hear about your toe :(

Regarding mobility/balance - the loss of the little toe doesn't usually cause an problem mobility/balance wise - but it's very individual - depends on how good you brain and ears are more than anything else but also weight can be a factor. It wont necessarily change the way you walk so I am keeping my fingers crossed that you wont have any issues on that front xx

Oh Simon, I am so sorry to hear your news. I've missed your posts. I even put on a post to see if anyone else had heard from you. We were getting worried because we hadn't heard from you. I hope you get sorted out very soon. Take care.

Gosh, I'm really sorry to hear this! I do hope things go smoothly from now, now that they've pinned down what's wrong. I hope your mobility isn't affected to any noticeable degree either.

Did they say if it was charcot syndrome? (a friend hand that, had problems for a while but it did get better). Either way, at least there's a treatment plan now. hang on in there! X

Simon ? I am really sorry to hear your news. Do say goodbye to your friend and follow the doctor?s advice to the letter. Someone I know was advised to have two of the middle toes removed but refused to sign the consent form. Gangrene then developed and spread! In the end he lost the leg ? avoidable and totally unnecessary. I am sure everybody here will be thinking of you next week.

That's bad news.

I'd like to say a few expletives for you, but I won't here.

I guess your mobility will be affected initially, but I'm sure that you'll be able to compensate and get about as before.

Get and keep well and best wishes,

Andy 🙂

Hope you get the best outcome overall for you, SimonRudd. Remember that the operation isn't the end of the story, and that physiotherapy to regain gait and perhaps orthotics too, ca nmake a huge difference, so do push for these.

Hi Simon I'm really sorry to hear this. I really hope that everything goes as well as it can for you. Big hugs.

Oh Simon, sorry to hear this and will be thinking of you next week.
Thank you also for popping on and letting us know as we were worrying about you. 🙂

I'm sorry to hear about your toe, but if it is going to affect the rest of your health it may be for the best. I do know a couple of people who have lost toes and they do things like athletics and dancing, one even does karate. It is just a question of getting used to using that foot as 'normal'.

shambles - i use crutches any way so i'm hoping the mobility issue wont be to much of a problem

spiritfree - Thanks for the concern :D i'm okay just feeling a little flat now

Twitchy - yes i have a charcot joint on my right foot/ankle they think this is why my left foot is suffering. The bone crumbled because to much pressure was put on my left foot.

StephenM - i'll sign the form, i really dont want the op - but i cant see any other way forward.

Andy HB - i cant help but thinkmy mobility will be effected, but i find it hard to walk at the moment anyway 🙂

Copepod - the Doctor said i would have to see orthotics to get a insert for my shoe to spread weight - the whole thing is pretty sucky.

AJLang and lucy123 - thank you :D

Caroline - Thanks, i'm sure it will in the long term help me but i'm still pretty shocked :(

Sorry to hear about that Simon - hope the op and recovery go OK....🙂
x

Simon thank you for coming on the forum to let us all know how you're going on, I'm very sorry to be reading this 😡

We'll all be thinking of you next week & here's to a quick recovery for you 🙂

Take care xx
