Hey guys,

I've not posted or been on here in quite awhile as things have generally been going ok diabetes wise.

I've hit what feels like a pretty big pot whole in the road. I have come out of my Honeymoon period with a bang and my sugars are mostly in the high 20`s no matter what I was injecting. I saw my consultant on Tuesday and he wanted to admit me to get things under control but that isn't an option for me haha. So he has increased my dosages and told me I have to check my bg's every 4hrs night and day and adjust from there.
I have an appointment to see my D nurse on the 14th May but he said I need to go in and see her asap so ring up and go in sooner.
So today I rung her up and they were just like sorry we are fully booked we cant see you and wanted to know what so I told her but also said I have had two hypos and not had awareness. She wouldn't listen to me talking about it then said to degrease my insulin, which has only just gone up!
But when I had my hypo I was 11.5 then like 30mins later I was 3.

I just feel like I am not being listened to and they ask questions that need black and white answers and only want black and white answers but I cant give them a black and white answer because its not black and white!
Its like they don't have time to listen to you and all this is just driving me mad!!!!!

I might ring me the diabetic nurse at my gp because she is really nice and actually listens to me. I'm not under her care but she has said I can always go chat with her.

I duno its just sooo argh!! lol

Thanks for letting my rant x

Sorry to hear you are having such a rough time with your BG.

Surely if your Consultant feels things are bad enough to want to admit you then you should get an emergency appointment with your DSN? I would ring your DSN again if it is what the Consultant has requested. You need to get things sorted out asap. If you feel more comfortable about seeing the practice DSN then make an appointment with her asap, as you say.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Hi becky, sorry to hear this :( What has been happening exactly? What doses were you on originally and what have they increased to? Is there any pattern to the highs and lows, and when are you testing i.e. waking, before and 1 or two hours after eating?

Try not to become overwhelmed and look at one thing at a time. What are your bedtime levels like and what are you waking at? If you are significantly higher in the mornings (test as soon as you wake) then it could be your background insulin that needs adjusting. You need to tackle this before anything else otherwise if it is out then it will affect everything else. I would suggest trying a basal test - have a read of the following:

You will get this under control, I am sure, but it may take a little while and patience as you solve each small part of the puzzle. If you can, try to keep your carbs low and meals as boringly predictable as you can then it is easier to see what effect the meals are having and how to adjust your ratios.

Let us know if you have any questions or if there is something you would like to run by us. 🙂

I'd call the DSN again as well. Make sure you tell her the consultant has instructed you to see her as a matter of urgency since you are unable to go into hospital for whatever reason. If that doesn't work call the consultant's office and tell them what's happening, ask them to contact the DSN for you.

It can't hurt to go and talk to the diabetic nurse at the surgery too, just for a bit of support.

I hope you get proper support soon so you can start to feel better.

That's a good idea about getting back to the consultant - after all if he has said you need to see the DSN urgently then he will hopefully sort it out for you.

I am sorry you are going through all this - it's bad enough having poor control at the moment without having to stress over trying to get the help you need and are entitled to.

Take care and I hope it is soon sorted.

hiya becky i have been diabetic for 7 yrs and still having this problem no matter how much i inject me self my sugars aint steady, my sugars where always 15 plus even in the late 20's drives me mad. but then 2 hours later i could be 2.3 honestly i know what u r going threw. It makes me upset as well because im trying my best control it. I recently did the ice course which is were they teach u how to count all the carbohydrates which are in the food u eat then u can work out how much insulin u take and if ur sugars r higher then also gives u a correction does to take on top of that which will bring it down. i know it confusing and over facing but there is a new blood machine that does all the maths for u tells u how much insulin take i now use it ( ACCU- CHECK AVIVA EXPERT) and i have benefited from it. The nurses have also told me i would befit from the pump which im seriously considering, maybe u should look in to that as well its meant to be for ppl who have problems controlling the sugars. really hope this is some use to you just one more thing... please dont let it get u down i used go home and cry and think it was me and i was useless and couldn't get the hang of it and after 7 years i should be a pro lol just keep smiling u will get there i promise. 🙂 x
