Hi everyone just wanted to know what snacks you have between main meals really struggling what to have normally stick to quavers in between meals and the snack usually I have before bed are crumpets as it seems to do the trick overnight with my night time insulin

Normally stick to something like a bit of cheese or a few nuts i.e. something zero or very low carb. If you eat meat a bit if ham or chicken is ok too. They will all keep you fuller than quavers as well as.

If you are having to have crumpets before bed it sounds like you are having too much insulin. I know I was just after diagnosis. I started on 14 units levemir in the evening and now I'm on 2 in the evening and 4 in the morning. I would mention this to your DSN to see if they think reducing your dosage would be in order.

Pork crackling, chilli peanuts, pieces of chicken tikka, prawns, calamari, oatcakes with cheese, ice lollies, little chocolate mint sticks (2.6 grams carb each), celery and carrot sticks with dip and Wotsits are not too bad carb wise. I love crumpets but can’t have them as I don’t take meds to cover them (diet only type 2).

Crispbread with whole earth peanut butter, peanuts celery dipped in home made hummus.

Thank you for starting this thread, I was just about to post a similar thing about what do people do when they get the munchies (not the red packet sweets either), the last few nights I have had terrible cravings for something sweet after my evening meal, so was wondering what everyone does for snacks and how it affects their testing.

I try to keep some nuts and seeds around just in case, or I'll occasionally have a Nature Valley Protein bar as a snack too. There's not a lot else I feel safe eating as a snack, but this generally does the trick.

@Grannylorraine If I want something sweet after a meal, I keep a stash of Lindor balls and have one. They're 5g carbs and don't affect me too much. I know some of the others go for dark chocolate which is more recommended, but I really, really don't like the stuff.

I have tried the dark chocolate but like you I didn't really like it. With the Lindor balls I know I do not have the self control to eat just one, you must have very good self control.

I never thought I did have good self control - I'm the person who could quite happily eat an entire packet of chocolate digestives in one go. But I really surprised myself at my Lindor control!
