Hello , another question ! By the way thank you for all the replies regarding getting Harry to "normal" levels. You have put my mind at rest (slightly ; always worrying though !!)

As harry is only 3 he is still wanting a snack mid morning and mid afternoon, should this be carbohydrate based or protein only based. I assume that a protein based would not alter his levels but a carbohydrate one would ?

He currently has an apple in a morning or small bread sticks and a small (7g carb ) milky bar in an afternoon.. should i be heading for a protein only snack do you think ?

sorry for all the questions , I have many more in my head !!

Helen

Hi, is your son MDI and carb counting?

If so you may have a small degree of flexibility with carby snacks depends how tight your control is and how carb sensitive he is. Bit of trial and error. We can get away with 5g unbolussed some mornings or if very active, but this would send my daughter high on an afternoon. She doesn't always want a snack but we do use a lot of protein based snacks to avoid extra insulin being bolussed. Cheese, ham, chicken. Carrots and cucumber if he'll eat them have nil carbs, cherry toms are very low too.

🙂

I give Carly if she's on high level a breadstick, cheese or ham, she love her little bag of cheese bits but if she's on lower level she will eat fruits, a piece of toast or couple of biscuits. It's depend on her level but fruits do send Carly higher :-(
