Smartwatch compatibility

Does anyone have a smart watch they use to see their BG?
Lots of us do, yes. The options you have depend on what CGM you use and what phone (you can't really use an Apple Watch with an Android phone or a WearOS watch with an iPhone).

(If you're thinking of getting one of these smart watches that claim to read blood glucose, please don't. They don't work. But it's quite practical to have the BG that your phone gets from a CGM sensor on a smart watch.)

I’ve been using an Apple Watch SE for about six months. I was using Dexcom 1 which works fine via my iPhone. But to get the Watch to connect directly with the sensor as well as the watch I’ve transferred to the Dexcom 7. This means I can leave my iPhone and still get BG readings on my wrist.

The app which sets up the watch from your iPhone gives you many choices of design and what things you want to see. I chose the ‘Modular’ face and have Weather (top left), time and date (top right), my blood glucose reading in the centre, battery charge (bottom left), step count (centre) and messages bottom right. Touching any of the icons opens to more info including a BG graph, for example.

I don’t know how I managed without it. It has lots of other features such as alarms, phone calls, emails and access to a ton of apps. I charge the watch once a day on the nifty magnetic charger. The watch strap is one of the most comfortable I’ve come across - not just black like mine.

Good luck!

I have android though and freestyle libre. Any suggestions for a good ( and cheap ) watch?

The Apple Watch SE currently costs £219. I’ve always used Apple. I’m not sure FSL links with the SE or an Android phone. I’m sure others here will be able to tell you. There are quite a few useful short videos on YouTube …

I use a Pixel Watch, largely because I have a Pixel phone. (If you have a Samsung phone then a Samsung watch is probably a better option. If you have some other brand of phone then it may be that using a watch from that manufacturer will work slightly better.) I use Juggluco on both the phone and watch.

Other people use other combinations of watch and software setup. I think some use Garmin watches which may work out cheaper.

I have a Galaxy Watch 4 (very cheap) and android phone - using Juggluco and GlucoDataHandler I get values on my watch perfectly and you can use it for alarms too

Just taken it off to charge it (battery life is awful, but it's all I use it for (other than my hockey umpiring, which you can tell I've been doing tonight with the step counter!))

If you check the "Libre Geeks" facebook page there are loads of options on there but definitely no need to break the bank on the watch itself if that's all you want it for

Another with a 2nd hand Galaxy Watch 4 (was about £40)
I use xDrip+ in "companion app" mode reads the notifications from the Dexcom G7 app (so no GSM data connection/cloud required) I can't recall exactly what is talking to the watch, possibly G-Watch Wear app.
It does need the phone (within Bluetooth range) rather than the direct connection that apple watches allow.

I think I also used Juggluco when I was using a Libre
