Smart watch to link Libre.

For Mothers Day, and my birthday next month, my daughters have offered to buy me a smart watch. I would like one I could link my Libre to. I’ve Googled it but as a tech dinosaur I’m flummoxed. Any help welcome, budget about £300. I’m on iOS if that helps.

You need to use a 3rd party app - this is from Libre Geeks facebook page:regarding Apple Watches:

Apple Watch links for Libre 2/3 data.

To have glucose data on your Apple Watch you have two major options - use a third party app to communicate with the sensor, or follow yourself via the LibreLinkUp infrastructure, with Librelink / Libre 2 / Libre 3 app talking to the sensor and Libreview.com

Additional encryption / security on Libre sensors in the US/Canada/Australia/New Zealand mean that currently there are no 3rd party iOS apps that can receive data from these sensors via Bluetooth.

3rd party apps are not easy on iPhone, the app Shuggah is a re-release of xDrip4iOS and is the only one in the app store

This app replaces Librelink etc which need to have their Bluetooth diabled to avoid conflict.

https://xdrip4ios.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ and https://www.facebook.com/groups/853994615056838 for help.

xDrip4iOS and other apps like Spike or Glucose Direct may be available if installed via Testflight or other developer routes :-

https://spike-app.com/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/spikeapp/
https://github.com/creepymonster/GlucoseDirect https://www.facebook.com/groups/4747621411996068/

With one of the above your Glucose value should be available locally on your Apple Watch or anything that displays an Apple Calendar.
https://xdrip4ios.readthedocs.io/en/latest/configure/applewatch/ describes a watch app and the calendar complication method.

If you wish to stick with the official solution you can use Librelink 2.10 or the Libre 3 app to stream values to LibreLinkUp and then invite yourself via "Connected apps" to follow this data over the internet. Obviously this requires services from LibrelinkUp and an internet data connection to work.

Sweet Dreams https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/sweet-dreams-sugar-tracker/id1644428422 is a popular tracker, for lock screen or watch. There is a fee after a free trial period
Monthly Premium £2.99 Yearly Premium £19.99 https://www.facebook.com/groups/782793403456326/

Gluroo can provide a lock screen reading on the iPhone https://gluroo.com/support/ios-lock-screen-widget-blood-glucose/

Unfortunately it may be that Shuggah now requires a subscription. (It may well be worth £7.99 a year. I think I'd refuse on general principles and use xdrip4ios: there was apparently an agreement with xdrip4ios (which is the basis of the code) which they've broken.)

Blimey! I’m even more flummoxed! Think I’ll just carry on using my phone, thought it might be just a simple process. Thanks anyways, I still want a smart watch though to count steps etc. so will just leave it up to them to chose one for me! I haven’t the patience for all this techy stuff, I surprised myself that I managed to move from a Libre reader to the Libre app on my ancient iPhone 10. Maybe that’s my limit!

Unfortunately Apple seem to deliberately make it difficult I'm afraid - it's much easier using Android

I’m due a phone upgrade very soon I wonder if I should take the plunge and go Android.

I use an iPhone 13, an Apple Watch SE (latest version), and Sweet Dreams, and I find the combination brilliant! So good to be able to just glance at your wrist and get your reading, especially when phone has found its way to the bottom of your handbag or you’ve left it in the kitchen!

The Sweet Dreams developers are really helpful and will answer any questions you have about setup, or sorting out problems.

I’d go for it!

I’ve looked into this one and have asked my daughters to buy me it. In denim blue. I’m also upgrading my phone next month, currently iPhone SE.
Thanks for that. Fingers crossed all will be well.

I use a free app on Apple to show my bgs GlucoWatch

@eggyg I find having my readings on my watch a nice to have, especially when out and about driving etc (I’m on android) but there will be a suitable app
that will allow you show your readings on your watch having taken the information from LibraLink/Link Up app on your phone, also the other nicety of the smart watch is the step counter, also my smart watch tracks my sleep (or lack of)

I was very fed up with Libre Link when they yet again failed to update their app after a recent IOS change on the iPhone. I decided therefore to change to Dexcom 1+, agreed with my GP. The other reason was to accommodate a new Apple watch SE, which my son kindly got me. I added the Clarity (really good) and Follow (info to Clinic) to the Dexcom apps, and all was well. I can recommend this combination, and I like having readings on the watch. It took me a while to discover the best watch face and I picked one called “modular”. Being tethered to my phone is a nuisance (if I go upstairs the watch looses contact as it is more than 30 feet). So I’m now trying to get my hospital to allow a further change to Dexcom G7 which has a “direct to watch” app connecting from sensor to watch without needing the phone nearby. Fingers crossed.

Just to say that I got an Apple Watch at the end of last year. I was afraid it was going to be v complicated to make it all sync with my Libre and it nearly deterred me but actually it was super easy and took less than 5 mins. I would never be without my watch now. Great present and I am sure you will find it much less hard to sort than you fear - I did.

Oooh! Looks really snazzy @eggyg

Hope you get on well with it. Let us know how things work out 🙂
