I was placed on SR Metformin, 1 a day and told to increase to 2 at a time after a couple of weeks. Should I increase in stages? ie. 2 one day then 1 the next for a little while or go straight to doubling the dose?
I was suffering with gastro problems which is why they moved me across to SR, I still have issues with the SR but not as bad. I went on to 2 a day and had diarrhea so went back to 1. How long do the side effects last?

Hello Zosoche,
I have been taking 2 SR Metformin for a while and take 1 after breakfast and another after my evening meal. I have not had any side effects, but I think it is important always to take them with or immediately after eating.
Hope it works out OK for you.

Some people seem to find their bodies adjust and learn to accept metformin after a few weeks of use.

Hope it works out for you.

I'm back on 1 metformin now but when I went to 2 a day I didn't have a problem. as toucan / Kay says:

1 after breakfast and another after evening meal.

The body is only getting used to one xtra dose the other end of the day.

When I was on 2 a day I wouldI take with breakfast and evening meal, mid meal or end of meal followed by a glass of water always.
