Hi all.
I'm currently taking 1000mg metabet SR and ramipril 10mg for my blood pressure. The ramipril isn't working and I don't want to add another tablet into it. Any advice on what other members take for blood pressure control with slow release metformin. Thsnkjs.

Hi Jan, welcome to the forum 🙂 I didn't get on with ramipril either. My GP prescribed Candesartan instead of the ramipril, which works differently, and I have been fine with that 🙂 I can't imagine there will be any problem taking it with metformin 🙂

Hi Jan, and welcome🙂

There are reported interactions between ramapril and metformin, but they are rare. You don’t need anything added in to your BP medication, you need a change. The fewer medications you are on, the better. You’re not on a statin, are you?

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't had any problems with the ramipril but he wants to add in another drug and I'm not happy with that.
I was on the maximum dose of candesartan some years ago with it not working. However that was before the diabetes dx and when I was considerably heavier. I'm due to go up to 1500mg of metformin in about a week so hopefully my bm will be improving by then. I already feel better now my body has adjusted to the new dosage. I think I'll ask him for candesartan and we'll see how it goes.
No I'm not on a statin. I'm afraid I don't believe in them and as I'm a naturopath the less conventional meds I take the better.

Hi. Bear in mind that it's always best to take sets of BP readings at home to find out your real BP and avoid the White Coat syndrome. My DN agrees with this and I provide her with readings and have been able to stop my Ramipril. This may not be relevant to you but I suspect there are too many prescriptions for BP pills being given out.

I'm a retired nurse so yes I do my own readings. Mine is essential hypertension and predates the diabetes dx. I'v nagged the gp into returning me to candesartan as I feel I would do better with an angiotensin inhibitor. We'll wait to see the result. In the meantime there's a certain degree of intolerance to the new metformin dosage which isn't helping. It will pass though. I just have to stick with it.
