Anyone know if this is a bit like yoghurts in the way it lasts? I know yoghurts last well beyond their 'Use by' dates, because a mate of mine who used to make them for the Co-op told me they were fine for up to a month after. However, I'm not sure about Skyr. I've got a big tub of it in the fridge that was opened before Christmas and it says 'use within 3 days' - is that poppycock?

I think the answer is, does it pass the sniff test, does it look OK (ie, not blue!). If it doesn’t smell sour, and doesn’t taste off, then I’d assume it was fine. (I was brought up by parents who didn’t have use by dates to help them.) It may have separated out a bit, which may be why there’s a cautionary label, but you can stir it all back together again.

Thanks @Robin 🙂 Looks fine and smells fine, I think I'll chance it 😱 I bought a large tub in order to be economical, defeats the purpose if I chuck most of it away! 🙂

Your body will be the final arbiter Northie - cos it will soon get rid of it again if it isn't OK !

Pet hate of mine is when people pour off the water on yogurt, its just whey and is full of goodness and proper yogurt is meant to separate like that, as you say stir it all back in and enjoy.

Smells okay? Not looking blue or fluffy?
Probably okay and I would do as @Robin said, stir it all and then enjoy.

Have we heard from Northie today? Is he locked in the loo with the three old ladies?

I assumed you were OK as you'd appeared several times since then and not mentioned fitting the forum in, in between appointments with the bog!

HI Northerner. I use Skyr as my husband loves it and I eat some too. I mainly have the Fage 3g carbs per 100g no fat yoghurt. However, I have to say I find the Skyr does not last as long as the Fage. If it is from before Christmas it is probably not a good idea to eat it. Taste a little bit of it and if it is really tangy or bitter I would say don't. Hope this helps.

I used to pour it away then hubby said just mix it back together as there is nothing wrong with it!!

Have been eating it and it hasn't killed me yet 😱 🙂 Tastes fine 🙂
