Relationship to Diabetes

Hello all,
I have battled with hypertension for many years (bad genes) even with meds they peaked at 140/95 but since being aware of my diabetes I've lost 2 stone and changed to stronger BP meds and last week for the first time got a 120/80.
Today I had to have a medical assessment with the ESA to see if I'm allowed to work again or not due to a spinal/nerve problem, half way through the tests the Asseser took my BP and got a reading of 150/117 😱
All she said was "OH" and carried on with the medical.

Should I be worried?
Should I phone the GP?
Should I wait until my next GP appointment in 2 weeks?

Hi Eggle, did they only take one reading? BP can be very difficult to pin down, especially when you are being tested for it! My GP will often perform two or even three tests to make sure I am not reacting to 'white-coat' anxiety, and it usually falls to more respectable levels. A few years back I was 165/120, but have brought it down to near-normal now, try not to be too concerned, and I hope that it comes under control for you soon.🙂

Thanks for putting my mind at rest,
I was extremely anxious about the exam so it probably was just a high 'white reading'.
I should learn to relax and not get so stressed by stupid government medical tests.
😱

I have had high blood pressure for a long time too, it is controlled by tablets. When I went for an assesmnet because I'd been off work along time the doctor did two readings. After the first one (soon after I got there) he asked me how I was feeling and if I found anything stressful.

When he did the second reading about half anhour later my BP was going down. He thought the high was caused by the stress of going to a new place and not knowing what to expect.

If you are realy worried, you can always go chat to the doctor or practice nurse (whoever you feel most at ease with) and ask if there is anything you can do to help yourself.

Thanks for your help,
I've spoken to the nurse and will see her on tuesday, she also said more readings should have been taken after such a high result and put it down to 'white reading'
🙂 she also talked about me taking up Yoga or Pilates or even Aerobics.

can you imagine a bloke who looks like Johnny Vegas with the scantiest of workout attire, leg warmers and such!!!

Eric Prydz would try to sign me up for is next pop video if news got out!:D
