Hello,

I'm on a low carb diet for weight loss and to meet my daily protein I was eating mostly canned Skipjack tuna in brine which is cheap and easy to eat and has lots of protein, 24 grams per 100 grams. I recently found out that Tuna has mercury and you could get mercury poisoning from it? I was eating like 3-4 tuna cans of 100 grams per day until I found out this. How much tuna per day/week is it safe to eat to not get mercury poisoning?

Skipjack tuna has the lowest mercury content but also has selenium which counteracts the effect of mercury in the body. But even so it suggests that 2-3 times a week together with other low mercury fish would be OK. A bit of Googling will give you what is known/suspected.
It is better to have different sources of protein so you also get the benefit of a variety of vitamins and minerals and other nutrients.

Hi,

We also read about the Mercury content so i have one can a week.
