Hi all, I've been diabetic for 10 years. Metaformin really upset me, so the Dr put me on gliclazide, but a new doctor didn't approve of that and has now put me on Januvia sitagliptins. My mmol is between 6.5 and 10, which I think is Ok but have unpleasant side effects. Constipation and stomach cramps and odd twinges which I never had before. Is anyone else on these tablets? and have any odd side effects. I can see no mention of it on any of the forum posts.

Have you checked the patient information leaflet that came with them? I used to be on Sitagliptin but was changed to another gliptin a while ago not because any problem but because the CCG advised the change to the practices in my area.
Gastric problems are usally more associated with Metformin.

i am taking it with no side effects. could it be that with you been on metformin it could take a while for things to settle back down after coming off it. not sure why the doctor objected to gliclazide as that is a good medication.

best giving it a bit more time and if no joy go back through your doctors.

Sorry to hear you are having some unpleasant side effects since altering your medications. Checking the Patient Information Leaflet is a good idea - you might also discuss your symptoms with a qualified pharmacist if it’s difficult to get hold of your GP.

Do try to see your GP though, as it’s important to keep them in the picture and they know your history - it may be that what you are experiencing might be unrelated to your medication switch, so it’s wise to check it checked out.
