Does anyone have any cures for sinus infections?
So far antibiotics have done B all, sudafed, paracetomal and a vaporisor are in full use now but headache is still bad and the pressure build up is even hurting my eyes now :(

Sorry to hear this Sue. I don't have any remedies, but I seem to remember Cazscot has this problem from time to time so hopefully she will see this and be able to help. Hope you are feeling much better very soon 🙂

Sounds horrid, Sue. Have you tried sleeping with a tissue soaked in Olbas oil next to you, or the old head over a bowl of hot water? I believe you can put drops of the oil in the water as well but this might not be good for the eyes.

I'm using a Karvol vaporiser at the moment, it plugs into the wall socket, haven't tried anything nr my head yet, next on list I suspect ta. 🙂 Actual steaming tends to make things worse for me as clears it out and then blocks again within minutes so not to keen on trying that again.

I have allergies and consequently have sins problems. I use a neti pot once a day. The relief is great.

How long have you been taking the anti-biotics? Maybe they're not the right ones for whatever bug you've got.

What about antihistamines - could they help?

Ooh ta haven't heard of a neti pot before. That's on my list for Monday's shop.

Antibiotics were finished last week and the pressure has just kept building :(
Not tried antihistamines, well worth a think about as well.
I always had sinus problems when I kept horses due to an allergy against the hay and straw so used antihisamines then. But haven't had any contact with horses for at least a year now.

PG, you are a super star :D I did some reading on the net and saw a syringe could be used instead of a neti pot. I used a cartridge from my pump last night the relief is in the wow factor league. Thank you 🙂

The solution depends whether the cause is allergy or infection. If allergy, then avoiding the allergen and / or using antihistamine has to be at leasdt part of the solution.

However, both will cause inflammation, which can be relieved by medication aplied locally eg Otrivine nose drops (not spray), active ingredient xylometazoline http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/ear-nose-and-throat/medicines/otrivine-adult-nasal-drops.html Technique is important - lie down, ideally with head off edge of bed, sofa etc, drop a couple of drops into each nostril, and stay lying down for a minute or so. The taste at the back of throat is disgustingm but it really works. Better than nose spray, if you use it properly, because you're working with, not against gravity. Once the swelling of the entrances to the sinuses has reduced, then the "gunk" can drain out too, which also tastes foul, but the loss of headache pain, dizziness etc is wonderful 🙂 Worked for me, suggested by a GP after I'd had a course of antibiotics 2 winters in a row.

Thanks copepod,
just checked out your link and it' has the same ingredients as the sudafed spray which I have as well. ( had forgotten about it )😱
My problem can be fine for months on end then something I know not what, triggers it again. I'm wondering if clearing some old compost in the garden has set it off from the fungal spores. I know that hay and straw are a trigger as are cats and horses. But as I haven't been near any it has to be something else as well. :(

Autumn is the main season for fungal growth, spores in compost could be the trigger. Anyway, perhaps same ingredient, but delivered more effectively, might help?
