Hi all
I have lost my licence due to poor field vision from operations on both eyes in 1997 due to haemorrhaging. Have been able to drive since then but due to poor field vision I wondered are there any operations which may be able to help clear my sight more to get my licence back and is it worth asking my eye specialist or getting a private consultation for a victrectomy etc?
Many thanks
Baz

Hi @Barry Webb

I've had vitrectomies in both eyes , I've gone blind in one eye since but not from the operation. Vitrectomies clear any trapped blood and debris from the eyeball jelly by removing the jelly and replacing it with clear saline solution. It does make vision clearer and helps disperse blood more quickly from any future haemorrhages but if the retinas are damaged from laser & retinopathy it won't improve the sight that's missing or damaged, it does makes what sight you do have clearer.

If you are seen at a retina clinic ask them about the chances of getting your driving licence back. My eye surgeon told me once I had reached the point of not being able to get my licence back as before that I remained hopeful I would be able to see well enough to drive with the sight I have in one eye. Unfortunately all the laser I needed destroyed my peripheral vision so I couldn't pass the fields of vision test.

Ask for advice from the clinic that has been treating you/knows you. Best Wishes

Thanks for the heads up. Was suspecting what you said would be the case but just thought I’d ask

I’ll go see the eye specialists I think

Thanks
