Hi there everyone.
I've signed up with DiabetesUK because I really need help, support, navigation and to have the understanding of others on this journey which is difficult and is also impacting my mental health greatly.
Hello again everyone 🙂

Welcome @Lady Sphnx 🙂 No need to be shy - we’re friendly bunch🙂 How long have you had Type 1? Are you pumping or are you on injections?

Hi and welcome from me too.

Sorry to hear that you are struggling a bit mentally as well as practically. Diabetes and insulin management can be very challenging, particularly when newly diagnosed but also longer term with "burn out" being a known problem. So pleased you have found the forum though as the members here have helped me enormously since diagnosis 5 years ago.

If you are comfortable doing so, would you like to tell us a bit about your diabetes? Things like:-
How long you have been diagnosed?
Which insulin(s) you use? Pump or injections?
Which Constant Glucose Monitor (CGM) you use or are you still just relying on finger pricks?
Anything else you think might be relevant?

Also please feel free to ask anything that you don't understand or need help with. I remember that a lot of what my nurse told me in my relatively short appointments in the early weeks after diagnosis went in one ear and out the other as I was somewhat shell shocked. Being able to come here to the forum at my leisure and pick the brains of people who had been there and got the T-shirt really helped to fill in the blanks. In fact it was people here on this forum who spotted that I was misdiagnosed as Type 2 instead of Type 1 and pushed me to ask for insulin, even before my health care professionals did and sure enough, a couple of months later when they tested me, my results came back Type 1. The forum really is a goldmine of knowledge, practical experience and support from people who live with the same challenges day after day and meal after meal and night after night. Hopefully you will find a similar massive practical and mental benefit to being here as I have. Look forward to hearing more of your story and hopefully being able to offer you some advice or support.

Welcome to the forum @Lady Sphnx

Glad you have joined us!

It made such a huge difference to my experience of living with diabetes when I started comparing my experiences with other T1s online. Not only did I feel less isolated, and that others were facing the same struggles and frustrations day-to-day, but it was also a huge learning experience. With lots of practical tips and strategies I could try out to see if they worked for me.

I think I learned more in forums in 2 years than I had in the previous 15! And the support and encouragement to keep going and keep experimenting was priceless 🙂
