Impressive. Well done.

Very well done @Largesse1!
It is a great example that advice from the forum works, and also high praise to you for putting it all in to practice so well.

Have you noticed that since the 9th August the spread has come down? Might be due to when during the day you take your readings, but it may be another way of showing that you really are getting on the top of things. Well done!!

Yes, it seems to be stabilising. Let’s hope it continues.

Perfectly demonstrates that you are doing the right things and they are paying off. Many congratulations on the success of your hard work.

Out of curiosity do you know what caused the really rogue readings like the 17 and 22 floating way above the others. Were they as a result of eating something naughty and did that help you to focus more and be less inclined to err.
I ask because I had a moment of weakness not long after I was diagnosed and ate something one night in desperation and it sent me up to 27 which really brought it home to me that this is serious and I can't afford to comfort eat anymore, so there was actually some benefit in that moment of weakness and being able to record it.

Hi R,

For me it was plain old stupidity. I’d been cooking and thought I’d measure before I ate and forgot To was my hands. It’s quite easy to have something sugary on your fingers. If you got a 27 I suspect it was something on the finger you pricked. but still definitely staying off the carbs sugary stuff. ive found cloud bread with peanut butter fulfils that same part of the brain that so enjoys carbs!

Ah, I see! Yes, I have had the odd sticky finger reading, but no, my 27 was a genuine reading and totally self inflicted because I ate almost a whole big bag of salt and vinegar Jacobs Crackers one evening and then spent all night after that shuttling between the bedroom for sleep, kitchen for glasses of water and toilet to release the water and surplus glucose. It was a long, scary night monitoring my BG levels and watching them soar and it has mostly kept me in check since then, so maybe not a bad thing.
In my defence, I had been on an extremely strict low carb, low fat, no alcohol, low salt diet for several weeks, after previously being a carb junky, and I finally cracked. I thought I was being half good going for savoury rather than sweet carbs but it didn't make much difference and of course, once I opened the packet, I didn't know when to stop. I learned not to keep anything like that in the house. It mortified me that my weakness could have landed me in A&E and I was so relieved when it topped out at 27!

Oh that sounds really scary. And so easily done. It amazes me when I think back to all my carb addiction feasts and what the6 must have being doing to me. my desire to eat them interestingly, I think, definitely increased prior to diagnosis. I would by TUC biscuits which I never used to and eat the whole packet. Toast and marmite - no stopping me once I started. Looking back it’s definitely an addiction and like giving up smoking the difficult part is making the decision to give up. Once the decision is made it’s easy. Sounds like that scary night helped you make the decision. Well done!

I was the same as you. My carb portions and craving for them had increased to the point of being ridiculous and I am quite horrified to think back on the amount I was eating in general but carbs in particular. How I wasn't the size of a house end I don't know!
Good to find another Marmite lover.... have you figured out a good way to eat it now without carbs? I very occasionally have a scrape of it on a piece of sesame Ryvita with lots of butter but not the same as a slice of warm wholemeal toast with slightly melting butter and Marmite. Yum!

I love marmite on courgette or a slice of cheese. I also like it as a hot drink, I loooooove marmite!

I’ve done the same, it was cherry pop tarts in my case, about a week after diagnosis. Nothing like the shock of numbers and a horrible night in the bathroom to knock some sense into you. At least it’s put me off pop tarts lol.

Are we talking about spreading it on raw courgette or drizzling it on cooked courgette?
The combination of Marmite and cheese is just a bit too salty for my taste.

The addiction bit is so true, nightmare. I can't stop. :(

Congrats on your graph, I don't really understand it, can't take in figures, but I get the impression you've done well.

Cooked, but only because I don’t like raw. There’s no such thing as ‘too salty’ in my book, I crave salty, savoury stuff far more than sweet.
