Steve has just spoken to his doc on the phone because he is dropping in to the low three's several times aday the doc says this is not a problem and he cant understand why its happening.

i would be seeing someone else if gp cant understand why he should be finding out why or refering u to someone who can

Is your doctor a group practice? If so ask to see another doctor. If not make an appointment to talk to your doctor face to face to talk about your concerns. If you are still not happy ask for a referal to see someone else.

Thanks for reply Gail, foregot to say steves not on any meds and he also has scirrosis of the liver and i think it is connected to this but his doc just does'nt seem concerned at all.

I'd say definitely go and actually see him and explain your concerns, and as others have said, if that doesn't work seek a second opinion.

Thanks Caroline, steve has to go see him next week so he is going to ask him to refer him to the diabetes clinic.

Great, hopefully it will sort things out for you and everyone will feel better.

Hmm Caroleann - just thoughts from a layperson here ...

You know the body has a store of glycogen (or maybe glucogen, whatever) in the liver which it uses naturally to top us up to non-hypo levels when our BG drops? - well sounds to me like that bit is maybe impaired/missing. To complicate stuff - amongst other things - there's something in the pancreas that signals the liver to release its stores. Therefore it can be either or both that need to work properly in order for the liver to do its stuff.

Questions need to be asked .....

Intrigued as to what reasons doc gave for not considering it a problem?

Sounds a bit lazy of the doctor. You don't phone up to reassure the doc. Just because he's not concerned, doesn't mean he shouldn't take the time to explain the mechanism so Steve's mind is put at rest.

Sometimes they forget why they're there or assume that you'll be happy as long as they say it's not a prob.

In any situation, especially medical, if you are not happy with what you are been told, it is always worth a second opinion for your own piece of mind

Hi
Steves doing a bit better now he has relaxed his diet a bit more now,he is going back to work in a couple of weeks and has to go in to see the doc next week.
