hi

was in specsavers today for eyes test , i was given the usual tests asked all the questions how long have you been diabetic all the usual , she does all that tells me i need new specs and asks am i entitled to any money off , does me being diabetic mean i get money off the new specs? because i told her i get tax credits and she said that entitiles me to ?54 off. dont i get money off anyways or does the diabetes only entitle me to the actual eye test free??

Diabetics are entitled to free eye tests but as far as I'm aware that's as far as it goes, it doesn't extend to money off glasses etc

ohh well im on tax credits and they said im entitled to some help , also 2 years ago when i used boots i got a ?50 votchur my circumstances aint changed in them 2 years so guess im entitled this time around as well

I got my glasses online - just filled in the information from my prescription. They were ?13! Mind you, I only use them for reading and I'm a bloke from Yorkshire, so am not bothered about fashion!:D

Just got robbed blind! Told by my local independant optician (who I find to be great) that I needed varifocals - gulp, 'that' time of life already!!

Rather than taking the prescription down the road for a ?150 pair, I opted to stay with the guy who did the test and initial measurements... ?600 later and its now OUCH!

I get entitlement to two free eye tests a year, I elect to use the one for glaucoma on my left eye and the one for diabetes on the right - quite generous of me I think :D

These guys literally rob the blind if they can!

so nobody else has any help from these vouchurs then.

Steff, be very wary of having new glasses just yet.
You haven't been diabetic all that long and as your numbers are high this will effect your vision. Once your blood sugars go down, you will find your brand new expensive glasses do not work anymore.

I was advised by my GP when i went to see her 2 week back to go to optician i was getting very bad migraines the pain was unbearable and when i had the tests the optician said yesterday my prescription had not changed that much but because i had not had an eye test for 2 years i should get new specs

I have been persuaded to have varifocals on two occasions. On both occasions I couldn't adapt to the head rather than eye movement and went base over apex on some steps; also felt they were unsuitable for when driving.
The deal with both opticians was to replace with either reading or distance glasses which was done with no quibble.

Hi Steff

Don't rush until your bs readings are stable.
I did and it cost me. I wasn't diagnosed as diabetic at the time, but my driving specs were way out.

Had a retest and new expensive specs.

After diagnosis and treatment, the new specs were useless and the old ones were safe.

Optician wouln't prescribe new lenses until my bs was stable.
The new ones are great.

I had my first pair of glasses during a time when I had poor control. On my last testing they said that my sight had improved to a point that I don't need to wear them anymore. unlesss i choose or day to day or my vision is suffering.

well ive decided to hold off buying new specs seems good idea , i dont want to pay out good money only to find the specs may be no good in future
