Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
 Hi. first thanks to all the kind people who sent me a message when I joined the forum some weeks ago. I received a letter from my doctors secretary in July of last year telling me I had diabetes and to see my doctor. He told me it was type 2 and it could be controlled by diet alone. My wife put me on the fiercest diet you could imagine and reduced me from 16st 5lbs. to 14st 1lb. As I am 6'4" tall high winds are now to be avoided.I have none of the symptoms associated with type 2 and have had the retinography test and urine test and passed both clear. I am taking one tablet a day called Simvastatin 40mg because my doctor found some years ago that my cholestrol was high and although he says it is now normal he has not taken me off them. these can cause liver failure, inflammation of the pancreas, and increases in enzyne levels. Am I a fraud? Do I really have type 2 and is my attitude of "keep on the diet and carry on with life" the right one. I read some leaflets on what it can do to your heart and it scared the poo out of me. I feel embarrased when I run to catch a bus, catch it, and then think of the problems some people on this site have.I don't think I have the right to be on this forum.Any advice please?

Hi workhorse.

Firstly, you have a right to be on the forum whether you have t1, t2 or just want to chat, so it makes no difference what symptoms, if any, you may get.🙂

Your GP is the person to advise about your statins. I'm on them and like you, my cholestorol is just below the 'normal' threshold. If you're worried about side effects, you can have a test at your GP's to check.

How were you actually diagnosed ?

You must have had symptoms then, so presumably all that's happening is your diet is enough to keep the symptoms at bay. If you ate like you used to, they would probably return with a vengeance.

Have you ever tested your blood sugar ?

Rob

Hi Robster 65. thanks for your message. I was diagnosed from a series of blood tests. Yes I have bought a Test Meter and my lowest reading is 4.6 and my highest 6.8 taken over about four months. I have just posted a thread about the best time to take a reading.
Take care. Workhorse.aka Mick.

Welcome Mick!

I agree with Robster65 youhave a right to be hear =)
I would say that if you have no symptoms then you have made a huge improvement. I also agree with Robster65 and say that if you continued to eat like you used to then your symptoms would probably return with a vengeance.

If you talk to your GP he should be able to help, if not then there are places such as Diabetes Clinics you could possibly talk to, also the lovely people here might be able to help =)

Good Luck!

Hi workhorse, sounds like your other half has done a good job on the diet, with those readings, well done.

I get similar results, but know if I eat the wrong food, my readings will climb seriously at 1 hour and 2 hours after a meal.

As for being here, sure you should, as you have some questions and its probably the right place to ask. Anyway, beats 24 hour news.🙂

I'm type 2 and have been diet controlled for years. I had my check up on Wednesday and was declared just fine and to keep up the good work. I get fed up watching what I eat but I don't mind really as so far it has paid off, and I'm happy about that so just enjoy life and soldier on.
