Very new to this forum. Is there a place which explains the shorthand. I see B.G mentioned a lot and have no idea what it is.

Hi sparky111. Welcome to the forum. 🙂

BG is short for Blood Glucose, ie. blood sugar.

I think there may be a summary of the abbreviations somewhere, but not sure where. If I can find it, I'll post up a link, unless someone else beats me to it ! :D

I've found a thread that explains a lot of them but don't know how to post the link! Lol. I have tried, honest. I knew I'd seen it somewhere so did a 'search' on the word 'slang'. it's the thread entitled 'Slang, abreviations and acronims' or something similar. Just can't get the link on here.

Oh and welcome to the forums Sparky! XXXXX

That link's even better. I knew I'd seen that somewhere too but couldn't find that either. I'll go now.......XXXXX

Hi sparky, welcome to the forum 🙂 You might also like to have a look in our 'Useful Links' thread for links to lots more useful information and some good book recommendations. Have you been diagnosed long?

Hi Sparky welcome to the forum

thanks

Welcome to the forums Sparky.

thanks everyone for information and welcome. I was diagnosed about two years ago at age 68. Taking metformin twice a day and trying very hard to eat sensibly. I've lost just over a stone. I bought a BGM yesterday as I felt the annual checkup with a not very knowledgeable nurse wasn't enough. Readings today started at 5.8 on waking, 6.3 at 11 a.m. and 4.8 before evening meal. I usually have porrige for breakfast or musli if bored. Cottage cheese, salad and 2 small slices of bread for lunch. I usually have some fruit inbetween.

Those are pretty good readings Sparky 🙂 Using a monitor to test is the only way you can know from day to day how your food and activity levels are affecting you. It's important to test both before and after meals to discover the full effect of different meals - have a read of the following links:

Maggie Davey's letter to newly diagnosed Type 2s:

and also Jennifer's good advice:

Sounds like you have a pretty good diet - what other things do you like to eat?
