2 hours after tea I was 9.7 so took 1 unit to correct it, since then my bloods have drastically shot up, I was 17.2 at 9.34 & now I'm 20.0

Either my meter has had a hissy fit or something isn't right.
I have been ill with a temperature & sickness due to an infection but can't think it's that.

I don't know if to have 4 units to bring me down even tho I still have that corrective unit still in me.

I don't want to go hypo but I don't want to go to bed high either

I would wait a little longer Laura and test every half hour to see which way things are going - the correction may have only just started to get up to speed

I'm going to be up for a while but I've not eaten since just before 7, I don't know what's happened :(

What did you eat? Any chance the insulin has been compromised in some way - is it a new/old cartridge? What level were you at before tea?

Ugh! I got to 14 after a bowl of home made soup and 3 slices of usually relatively reliable Burgen this evening, so I massively over-corrected with just over 3u and am waiting to see how much (if anything) of a snack I will need before bed.

If you are confident of those readings I would get some extra insulin in and set an alarm at 2am

Diabetes is rubbish!

Alan - The cartridge is nearly finished & seems to have worked fine.

I had home made curry & noodles with bio yog for pudding.
I was sitting at 4.0 & eat wasn't started yet so had 2 jelly babies & started tea.

Mike I agree it's rubbish & it's annoying me for something to do at the moment.

How did things go for you Laura?

Not good, I woke just before 2 & from getting up to wash my hands I was behaving strange, tested & was in the 14's

I dread to test now but I've been poorly all night but no ketones

Ack! Sorry to hear this :( Did you do a further correction? It sounds like it might be the illness having a bigger effect on your BGs than anticipated. Hope you feel much better very soon! 🙂

16.1 & that was with a correction, I should of gone down :(

I'm expected back at work today but with everything I just want to go back to bed & cry

Hi Laura, hope your BGs get back in line soon! Do you think you might be coming down with a bug? Have you recovered from the dental work you had? There's not any infection there is there? That sort of thing can cause a rise in BG levels.

When you get your pump you'll be able to deal with situations like this much more easily, by setting an increased temporary basal rate until you're back on target. 🙂

I'm now 13.3 with ketones of 1.5

I have an infection which I was given 2 anti biotics for (1 of which I've reacted badly to)

I can't wait for my pump but I am a bit scared with the cannulas etc

Why do you not think its the infection, and the illness and sickness?
When Im ill I can easily need to double up on my insulin, and if Im missing breakfast for example Id probably need to do my normal insulin dose as if I were eating to keep me below the ten mark, never mind anything lower.

I don't think it's the infection as the area is normal now & nearly finished the anti biotics, I was poorly Sunday night & Monday which I thought was the infection but yesterday I felt fine til bedtime when my sugars went wrong.

I do sometimes find even if i feel OK after a bout of illness it can take a day or 2 for my sugars to settle back down! Maybe its just that, give it a day or two and see how they act then!
