Hi just joined, I had to go for my yearly routine blood fasting test, two days later phone call from the surgery “can you go for another blood test non fasting”
Me - I just had one
Surgery – yes you need another one
Me – why
Surgery – I don't know I only make the appointments
Me – OK
Two days later phone call from surgery - “You need to see the diabetic nurse”
Me – WHAT I'm not diabetic .........found out later that the blood fasting test was 7.7 so now have to wait until next Monday to find out more.
Bought a blood testing thingy now £40 lighter and two hours after a meal 11.8 😱......I need to have a good look at what I'm eating from now on. :(

Hi Richard very and welcome to the forum, glad you found us 🙂. Probably a good idea to note down what you eat and see where you can make changes to lower your carb intake. What did you eat to give you the 11.8?
Lots to take on board, but you'll get there. Take a look at the stickies at the top of the newbies section - great posts about testing etc

Hi Richard, welcome to the forum. Hope your healthcare team can give you some answers on Monday. If you are anything like I was when first diagnosed - in a flat panic - then it might be worth jotting down some of the questions that are whirling round in your mind at the moment so that you remember to ask them. And, of course, lots of great advice and support here. Let us know how you get on.

Welcome. Loads of good info on here. Read the links at the top of the newbies section. Try and go low carb/no carb (whatever they tell you!) and if you can avoid rice, pasta, potatoes, bread etc and substitute with loads of protein and veggies. Testing a good way to start. Educate yourself with the help of the lovely people here and you will be just fine! Good luck! 🙂

Hi Richard and welcome to forum. I agree with scottishlass. Write down your questions and take notes when you go for your appointment.

Hi Richard, and welcome to the forum. I agree with the gang, just keep an eye on things till you see the diabetic nurse, and as has been said, take a pen and paper. Then report back here with all the questions you’ve thought of after you get home from the appointment.🙂

Don’t worry, it’s a long game. Good move coming here, for sure. Plenty of folk around to answer any questions.🙂

Definitely listen to the Advise of the people in this forum, Iv'e been her about 2 weeks & found them amazing.
testing & monitoring seem to be the key, Low carb is definitely the way to go.

To calm the shock factor 7.7 for fasting whilst higher than normal is not excessive by the standards of some here (I was 21.7 when diagnosed) so I would think you should be able to manage yourself easily with Diet (note I am not a doctor).

Welcome Richard. I'm a bit jealous as you seem to have a hell of a lot more hair than I do and you're a wee bit older. Here's hoping that you eventually get your diabetes under control.

Ha Ha your not the first one, more so when I'm wearing my Kilt
Up-date
Many thank to all your reply s, went to see the nurse today, she was very nice and explained thanks really well. I have to see her again in two weeks time and she will be connecting my doctor to see if medication is required, so it's not all doom and gloom and there is a life after diabetes.

Once again thank you.

Great to read that you had a good appointment with your Nursie. Diabetes is manageable if you follow the right diet and exercise regimes, if you are able. Most T2's follow a LCHF diet (Low Carb High Fat diet) You could try reducing the amount of carbs you consume until you see Nursie again. This will aid to keep on top of your bgls (Blood glucose levels) Take a look in the following thread to learn more about LCHF:~

Remember you can ask as many questions as you want Richard ~ there's many experienced and knowledgeable people here who are willing to help you. Stay in touch and please let us know as to your progress. Take care
