Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi everyone. I'm only 18 months into the life of T1D.

I work in a secondary school and only myself and 2 students are Type 1.

As it's awareness month, what snippets do you suggest I share with the school via Tv's around the building. I have a few ideas but obviously I'm open to your expertise.

Many thanks.

Hello @Diabetic Fairy welcome to the forum 🙂. Why not share your ideas with the forum, we may be able expand on this.

Hi Diabetic Fairy, welcome to the forum. How is the journey going so far? The Diabetes UK website has a page dedicated to schools and has a lot of free resources on it, including information packs, which can be downloaded or ordered. This would be a good place to start, the link is https://www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to-diabetes/Your-child-and-diabetes/Schools

If you want videos to show around the school, they also have a YouTube channel, which can be found at https://www.youtube.com/user/diabetesukcharity As a starting point, this video,
explains what type 1 is. This myth-busting video,
is also worth showing.

What you’re doing is very positive, go to the top of the class!

And yes, it would be great to hear your ideas as well, as @KARNAK mentioned.

I believe that there are some computer games about type 1 diabetes if you search online. I'm not sure if you are able to set anything like that up, or if it needs to be something that the students see as they walk past.

Also, there was a competition for secondary school children to create short films about type 1 that could be more relevant for the students?
