The proportion of EU nationals leaving jobs in the NHS is rising, while the share of those joining is shrinking.

The BBC analysed NHS Digital figures, which showed the trend in England over the past two-and-a-half years.

Health experts say the UK's decision to leave the European Union in June 2016 was behind the trend.

The Department of Health says new language requirements for EU nurses may have played a part.

The analysis comes days after the Care Quality Commission (CQC) said the health system was "straining at the seams" and faced a "precarious" future, highlighting staff shortages and rising vacancy rates.

:( S'not great is it?

The ‘leave’ brigade didn’t tell you this would happen, though anyone with half a brain could have predicted it. Same with all the money we would be able to spend on the NHS - the pound is worth about 15% less than when this all kicked off. I hope somebody is happy with all this.

Very worrying. I happened to be in a&e yesterday and out of the 6 staff I saw 4 of them were European. I seriously don't think my hospital can survive without staff from EU, and other Continents :(

And the nonsense about opening up '10,000 nurse training posts' is pretty empty, given that they have taken away bursaries and many potential candidates will no longer be able to afford it is about as meaningful as Chris Grayling saying that if EU imports of food go up in price then 'we can grow more' 🙄

These people are clueless. It's terrifying to think they are the ones in charge 😱

In my Humble opinion, Brexit is the most disastrous mistake the UK has ever made. I was not in the UK when the vote was taken but I sat and watched it in utter disbelief as it happened.
It was a xenophobic, jingoistic vote built on a web of lies and deception which will lead us into absolute chaos and back 100 years.
I get very angry when certain sectors of out society blame people of my tender years, 67, for being responsible for it. Poppycock.
I was laughed at when I said the cost of living would escalate, which it has and will continue to do so. This vote as based on pure ignorance and shortsightedness without any thoughts as to the long term ramifications.
I agree, the EU Commission needs change and the waste needs addressing but I also believe these changes could have better been achieved from within the EU and not but being outside throwing rocks in.
What are we going to leave behind for our kids and future generations?
We have become a global laughing stock and are drifting into insignificance.
Rant over.

I totally agree.

My mates are very jealous because I was one of the people to interview 200 prospective nurses at a university. A nice bunch of students. 🙂
