More than half of multiple sclerosis sufferers are not getting the treatment they need because of 'shameful' failings by the NHS, a leading charity has warned.
In a letter to The Telegraph, supporters of the MS Society say research has found that six out of ten patients who could benefit from disease-modifying medication are not given them.
In some cases, patients suffering from the neurological condition are told they are not ill enough to be allowed the drugs, while others are told treatments are not available, the charity said.
Experts said that many patients were left in the dark about treatments which could help them because they were not given appointments with a neurologist regularly enough.
