How often do you ask for a reusable replacement pen. I use Novopen echo plus,( had it a year) though I don't really use it with the libre app, it got on my nerves lol. I just remembered a few years ago the Diabetes Specialist Nurse saying they need replacing as the spring can go on them. Im thinking about asking the G.P for another, not that there's any problems with it, just thought why not ☺️

I’ve only once or twice in 15 years had a replacement, they’re expensive so not something you replace regularly though do if there’s a fault with it. I called the manufacturer to report the fault and they posted a new one rather than requesting it through prescription though.

To me , it is not about when to request a replacement but to make sure you ALWAYS have a spare in case it breaks. Even when it is in warranty, a pen can break so you need to have a spare.

You were lucky. The response I had from Novo Nordisk to 2 pens with the same fault, and only 3 months old, was that I should ask for replacements from my “supplier”, whom they “might” recompense if I returned the pens and said supplier had a certain type of account with them. Fortunately my GP took a more pragmatic view and prescribed replacements immediately.

Sanofi just ask what colour to post you

I would always have a spare pen as back up. Personally I would order a second as a back up.
Although I never got a spare of the NovoPen Echo plus (half units) as I knew it was long until I was going onto the pump, and I had spares of the others.

I have had 2 broken pens in 17 years, not so bad. One the dial went weird (bit scary) the other the penfill section broke and we managed to use tape to fix it up, it was still usable at the time, but not practical

I will ask if I lose the one(I like to keep spares) or if one breaks. If you only have one it might be worth asking for another ad a spare in case anything happens

I have had a similar experience. Have had 3 novopens fail in the last 18 to 24 months. First time, I had a spare. The second time i contacted Novo Nordisk and they refused to replace it and said I had to go back to my GP, even though I sent it back to them. They told me it failed because of dampness/water ingress, which I suppose you can't use with a frio or similar pen cooler. I wonder what they recommend?
Third time, now, I am looking for alternatives to the Novopen that shows time and dosage.

Do you need to keep your pen in a Frio pouch? As I understand it, your "in use" pen is fine at comfortable body temperatures and you really only need to store spare cartridges in a Frio.

My in use bolus insulin pens lived in the bottom of handbags (but ensure said handbag is not lobbed next to a radiator! except in summer) in the same compartment/location as pens. Then you know exactly where it is and never need to hunt for it at mealtimes since you always know where you put your handbag. No idea about blokes, though having spent my working life in professional offices chaps usually kept their pens in their inside jacket pocket so I'd expect to find their insulin pen there too. My husbands were both factory worker so both had lockers, in which they deposited their lunchboxes along with outside coats etc on arrival daily, so expect they'd have put theirs in their lunchbox?

I keep mine in a pocket. Or my wife's handbag. I am about to ask for a new pen. I don't have a spare and I'd like one that can give half a unit.
