Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello!

I'm a newly diagnosed type 2. I was diagnosed following repeated visits to the GP with infections. I had no obvious symptoms but I suspect that they've built up over time and I may not have recognised them as diabetes symptoms. However for at least 25 years I've not been able to eat certain foods such as breakfast cereals and porridge without feeling shaky and wooly after about an hour of eating. I've always avoided these as a result. When I mentioned it to the doctor she just looked at me and never commented so I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing?

Hello and welcome from a fellow newbie. I'm the same with cereals, bread and the like. Makes my heart pound too. Nasty. I do long to eat porridge and if I ever get to goal weight I will give it a whirl but for now I will abstain. 🙂

Hi Ditto,

Were you also like that before you were diagnosed? I think I may have been type 2 for a long time and unaware.
I'm the same about porridge, I'd love to have a big bowl for brekkie but can't :/ it's funny because lots of people find it keeps them going all morning but if I have it I'm shaking like a leaf in about an hour!!

I was only diagnosed recently and then I still wasn't sure if they'd gotten it right. I've always been a bit shaky around bread and cereals. I read that you can be pre-diabetic for around seven years!

It is thought that some Type 2 could have for up to 10years before diagnosis.
Also you will see from reading on here we not all the same with foods we can tolerate, many find Porridge spikes there blood sugars.
