The drugs are only approved for Type 2 diabetes patients, but some doctors have prescribed the drugs to Type 1 diabetics.

This is a US article, not sure if it applies to uk?

They have been used 'off licence' for a while, and the possible problems are known. The British Diabetologists' position seems to be 'We don’t recommend them, for type 1s, but we know they can help in some circumstances, so be very careful if you do prescribe them, and monitor closely'
