My husband has type 2 diabetes (Tablet Controlled), but has no sex drive at all. He also has intermittant low testosterone levels. The GP has prescribed viagra, but as he has no sexual desire it isnt working. We did see a specialist a while back, but they were reluctant to try hormone therapy as the drop in testosterone is only intermittent. He isn't one for counselling or therapy. Anyone else going through similar issues?

Sorry to hear this @Mel1981, it must be very difficult for you both.

Changes in libido are not uncommon throughout different stages of life, and may be connected to his diabetes, or could be completely separate.

Good that you have been seeking specialist support, and that you are talking together about it.

Do you think it is that he has no desire for the act of lovemaking? Or might it be that his desire does not result in an erection which makes sex impossible? If the latter there are vaccuum-pump-based options which can support the necessary physical response.

Hope you find a solution that works for you both.

I have suggested the pump, but he says he has no desire to be intimate and it doesn't worry him now. He has had high blood sugars for quite some time, which I suspect may have damaged his nerves. I am only 40, so miss the intimacy. But I don't want to nag as marriage isn't all about sex and don't want to put pressure on him as that may make it worse. Just wondered if others had gone through something similar.

Sorry to hear that @Mel1981 :( You certainly aren’t alone. It’s a topic that comes up on the forum fairly regularly.

Here are a few previous threads in case they help
