Hi I'm a 48 Yr old male who suffers from ED.I've read up on my meds-propranol,metformin and gliclazide and they all seem to cause the issue. My doc gives me taladafil which I can only take twice a week but they don't work anymore. Is there anything on the nhs that I can take daily that maybe might help?

There's no one on the forum qualified to answer your question but diabetes itself can cause ED:-

I think there are injections that can be used, doesn't sound pleasant and I'm not male.

There are - called Caverjec. Not advised to use them more than once or twice a week either. Nobody in the medical profession would ever suggest it's normal to require more frequent use - in fact over use of the jab can damage the penis! Even in one's 20s and 30s the average number of times an average couple have intercourse is 2 to 3 times, apparently.

Or you can go completely non drug and use a pump. Can get those on the NHS, or can buy them from eg Numan.

Not wishing to pry but have to ask - how much attention do you pay to your blood glucose each day? ie to your diabetes and avoiding foods and other things eg activities that increase it too much?

I'm not sure I would agree that some of the meds you list cause ED e.g Metformin, Gliclazide etc. Make sure you keep your BS in range as far as you can as it's high BS that can damage the capillaries.

Metformin has been linked to both improvements (Due to its effects on insulin resistance, which is a factor behind ED as it restricts the release of NO which is what causes blood vessels to change.) and also a loss of sex drive due to its effects on testerone... there's also the fact that high blood sugar damages nerves and blood vessels.

In my own case I don't seem to suffer from a problem during the night, I wake up most mornings with a full on totem pole, sometimes a couple of times, but on 'cue' seems to be more difficult these days, which I'm not sure is related to diabetes or just a general lack of sex drive. (The morning totem pole is a recent return, as that had stopped for a few years around the time I was diagnosed, but has returned around a year ago - blood sugar is well under control)

Stress & Anxiety can also affect things.

Sildenafil is another alternative (Active ingredient in viagra.) which works for me. I just wish I could bottle whatever causes the morning wood!
